I got flowers today ... It wasn't our anniversary or any other special day. Last night, he threw me into a wall and started to choke me.  It seemed like a nightmare.  I couldn't believe it was real.  I woke up this morning sore and bruised all over.   I know he must be sorry, because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today ... It wasn't Mother's Day or any other special day. Last night he beat me up again and it was much worst than all the other times.   If I leave him, what will I do? How will I take care of my kid's?   What about money? I'm afraid of him and scared to leave.   But I know he must be sorry because he sent me flowers today.

I got flowers today ... Today was a very special day! It was the day of my funeral.  Last night, he finally killed me. He beat me to death.  If only I had gathered enough courage and strength to leave him, I would not have gotten flowers today.

Note from Dee: I grew up in a very physically abusive household.  It was not uncommon for my mother to work 8 or more hours every day then come home to a drunk who physically abused her every night.  Many times my small fingers would be the ones that dialed "911" as I stood trembling ... listening to her cry out with each blow ... wondering if HE WAS GOING TO KILL MY MOMMY.  Even as a grown woman I now can recall those vivid memories wishing there was something more that I could have done ... but I was only a child ... what more could I have done?  NOTHING.  Every woman has to look deep into her own soul and come to realize that YES you are worthy and NO you do NOT deserve to live this way.  We as women have a tendency of thinking we need to validate everything ... it is our nature to PUT UP with a lot and GO WITHOUT just as much if not more.  This is NOT an acceptable way of life!  The change starts with YOU !! Learn to love YOURSELF and always remember that you ARE worthy and that it is far better to be alone than to wish you were! You CAN and WILL MAKE IT WITHOUT HIM and HIS ABUSE !! This is NOT a guilt trip ladies ... rather more of a REALITY CHECK !!   Please wake up and smell the roses BEFORE you can't anymore!  Do it for your children ... but most of all ... DO IT FOR YOU !!
